On October 4th, 2023 my husband Manhattan Beach Motor Officer Chad Swanson was hit and killed on Duty leaving behind three boys 4, 2, and 10 months old. In the fog of that first few hours I was told that the department would be issuing a $10,000 check. Standard practice for on duty deaths to cover all expenses.
A single income household with three young kids and we had just lost our heart and our sole provider. I could hear the fear in the voices of the other officers as they asked what I was going to do, and if I had enough money to cover our bills, at least until I received his special death benefits. They knew that a majority of the guys at the department lived paycheck to paycheck and carried a credit card balance.
I was terrified. But I was also married to a man who was always ready. Some men golf, or like cars. Mine was passionate about real estate investing. Obsessive almost. He could see the value and the added security for our future that real estate provided. In a world of uncertainty, real estate was the best way for our family to become financially bulletproof.
The income we were able to create from our investments gave us time. He was able to work less, give his body the rest that it needed, and actually be there to see his kids. We were on track to more than replace his W-2 income. He was taken from us before he was able to see that through.

It is my most heartfelt prayer that I am able to give back to the LEO community in a way that gives families the one thing I will never have, more time.
Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety and security of our communities. It is unjust for the families of these dedicated officers to face financial hardship as a result of their service. Providing financial security for officers and their families through real estate investing can not only alleviate their financial burdens but also offers them peace of mind. Knowing that their loved ones will be taken care of financially allows officers to focus on their duties without the added worry of potential financial instability.
